Antique Plaque Benin Kingdom Bronze Africa XX Century

Bronze reproduction of the plaques of the ancient Benin kingdom of central-southern Nigeria, depicting a high dignitary with a feathered headdress surrounded by four warriors. The original plaques, made by the Bini (Edo) artists between the 15th and 16th centuries using the lost-wax casting technique, decorated the pillars of the audience hall of the royal palace until 1897, when the city was occupied by the English and the palace was destroyed.
