{"product_id":"antique-painting-muzio-scevola-oil-on-canvas-bologna-italy-600","title":"Antique Painting Muzio Scevola Oil on Canvas Bologna Italy '600","description":"Oil on canvas. 17th-century Bolognese School. The scene recounts the historical-legendary episode of Mucius Scaevola, an ancient Roman hero who, during the siege of Rome by the Etruscan king Porsenna (508 BC), infiltrated the enemy camp to kill the sovereign. Captured after mistakenly killing the king's scribe instead of the king himself, Mucius placed his right hand on a burning brazier, letting it burn painlessly, to demonstrate the Romans' courage and punish him for having misplaced its target. Porsenna, impressed by his courage, freed him and lifted the siege of the city. Rich in color and moving figures, recounting an episode of classical culture, the painting expresses the characteristics of 17th-century Bolognese art, founded on the revival of classicism and the affirmation of the Baroque. The vivid chromaticism and the overlapping of the figures in different fields of vision, differentiated by varying levels of brightness, are particularly striking. The painting has been restored and relined in the past. It is presented in an early 20th century gold frame.","brand":"Di Mano in Mano Co Uk","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":56536935432571,"sku":"ARARPI0328506","price":4105.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0909\/3880\/2555\/files\/ARARPI0328506_1.jpg?v=1792797003","url":"https:\/\/www.dimanoinmano.co.uk\/products\/antique-painting-muzio-scevola-oil-on-canvas-bologna-italy-600","provider":"Di Mano in Mano Co Uk","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
