Antique Chests of Drawers Neoclassical Walnut XVIII Century

A pair of Lombard neoclassical chests of drawers, dating to the last quarter of the 18th century, characterized by a refined design and elegant craftsmanship. Each chest of drawers is supported by four fluted truncated pyramid feet. The front features three drawers, the first of which is narrower and the other two designed without visible hardware, thus allowing for a seamless inlay. The walnut and walnut burl veneer is enriched with olive wood borders and maple and amaranth fillets, creating a striking interplay of colors and contrasts. The entire surface is finely inlaid: the band under the top of the first drawer is decorated with an ebony fretwork adorned with alternating flowers and lilies. The sides and bottom of the tops feature leafy rosettes; opposing leafy scrolls are repeated on the top and front of the two main drawers, at the center of which stands an inlaid figure of a scholar. The interiors of the chests are made of fir. There are some restorations: one of the seat backs has been replaced and some locks have been renewed.
