The work is complete to its 9 volumes, divided into different parts to fill 27 volumes. The tome IX contains the Life of the Author, and the general Index of the whole work. The Tiraboschi (1731-1794), a Jesuit, the first teacher and librarian at the Brera academy and by 1770 the director of the Biblioteca Estense of Modena, published this History of Italian Literature in an edition of 9 volumes between 1772 and 1782, and in an enlarged edition in 16 volumes between 1787 and 1794; the work remained for a long time point of reference for scholars of literature
